The song " The Romance of Lake Dalupalringi" tells a poignant love story...

Legend has it that in ancient times, there was a beautiful Rukai girl (Taiwanese aborigines) named Ba Leng. While working in the mountains, she became separated from other girls, and stumbled upon the shores of Lake Dalupalringi.

Shrouded in mist year-round, Lake Dalupalringi is a mysterious and forbidden area in Rukai. There, Balhenge met a handsome man and fell in love with him...

Later, Ba Leng frequently visited the shores of Lake Dalupalringi to meet this handsome man. One day, Ba Leng's friend followed her to the shores of Lake Dalupalringi, only to see not a handsome man but a gigantic hundred-pace snake, which frightened them terribly. But in Ba Leng's eyes, he was still a handsome man.

Finally, this handsome man is the Snake Prince, the #Hundred-Pace Snake King, who lives in the Lake Dalupalringi,  atop #Dawu Mountain.

Ba Leng's parents were reluctant to let their daughter marry the Snake Prince, but since they were in love and didn't want to offend the Hundred-Pace Snake King, they agreed to the marriage. As the wedding procession arrived at the shores of the Lake Dalupalringi, Ba Leng sang this lingering love song, with the second verse being his mother's response. The family watched as Ba Leng and the Snake Prince gradually sank to the bottom of the lake, and Ba Leng's conical hat (headdress) slowly vanished into the whirlpool of the Lake Dalupalringi.

There are numerous versions of the legend of #Romance of Lake Dalupalringi/#PrincessBaLeng. However, the origin of this story may lie in a Rukai woman's encounter with a man of a different ethnicity 300 years ago. Under the social system of the time, their families opposed their relationship, so they both committed suicide by jumping into a lake. Their families could not accept such an unblessed love story, so they embellished it and passed it down to future generations as a legend.
