Golden Peacock on the bough,
chants of virtue whispered now.
Crest of flame and tail so bright,
warded snares by sacred rite.

Hunters came with subtle art,
seventh sought the Peacock’s heart.
Feigned a mate to lure him near,
cast the net with guileful snare.

Bound at last, his song was stilled,
yet with mercy, truth was filled.
Hunter learned of lust’s decay,
set him free to soar away.

Once, while the Buddha was residing at Jetavana Monastery, he recounted a past life in which he was born as the Golden Peacock, adorned with radiant feathers like molten gold, dwelling deep in the Himavanta forest. The Golden Peacock was steadfast in chanting protective verses every dawn and dusk, a devotion that shielded him from all dangers.

News of this reached King Brahmadatta of Benares. The queen dreamt of the Golden Peacock and became deeply enamored, urging the king to capture it. Yet no matter how many hunters were sent across successive reigns, none succeeded, for the Golden Peacock remained devoted to his vows and his sacred chants.

At last, the seventh cunning hunter discovered that the peacock was disciplined in both virtue and prayer. He devised a trap, luring the bird with a female. Distracted from his chants, the Golden Peacock was ensnared for the first time in over seven centuries. Yet upon hearing the Peacock’s plea, the hunter’s heart softened, and he released him. The Golden Peacock then imparted teachings on compassion, the perils of desire, and the blessings of right view. Enlightened, the hunter attained the state of a Pacceka Buddha. The Peacock, freed from snares of both rope and passion, returned to the forest, radiant and serene.

From this tale arises Suvarna Mayura, the Golden Peacock, a fragrance that unfurls like the hymn of his chant. At the first touch, a luminous brightness of sweet orange and bergamot breaks forth, glimmering like dawn upon his golden feathers, a moment of awakening when the forest stirs with life. Then, as the sacred chant gathers strength, the fragrance unfurls petal by petal, like the Peacock unveiling its iridescent tail. Champaca gleams with golden warmth, jasmine sambac glows with intoxicating brightness, gardenia deepens the air with creamy softness, and orange blossom shimmers with a gentle radiance. Woven through, honeyed poplar bud glistens like a hidden thread of light, completing the vision of beauty, devotion, and compassion. In the final descent, the scent settles into meditative depth, where sandalwood and patchouli breathe with earthy calm, oakmoss clings like the forest floor, and the shadows of musk root and civet echo the eternal cycle of life and release.

In wearing Suvarna Mayura, one carries not only the beauty of a golden plume but also the wisdom of one who has transcended desire and captivity, leaving behind only the radiance of freedom and compassion.
