A Tale of Two Teas.
Two names, two scents, two stories.
Plant the same seeds onto two peaks;
Let it grow in parallel, and see the fate split.
1841, Himalayans.
Mountain to mountain, East to further east,
as it settled in new soil from the land of spice.
In secret hands of a botanist, it traveled harsh heights.
Entwined with Assam, the water flows with a fragrant red,
silhouetting a far sight, to be given a new name Darjeeling.
1646, Wuyi mountains.
Withered greens rolled, fermented, and fire-dried and smoked with pinewood.
Smoked leaves brewed into an airy black tea, its roots anchored on strange mountains.
Surrounded by deep valleys and cold hills, the fluid embodies an earthy aroma.
Smokiness of baked pine, a honeyed fruitiness of oriental tea.
A cloud of air that’s named Lapsang Souchong;
Or otherwise another name, on another peak,
in another life, like the other twin.
