A Soliflore Interpretation of Durian Blossom
Before the fruit, there was a flower.
FANTASTIC captures the scent of real durian blossom before it becomes the famous fruit everyone knows.
It is not a recreation of ripe durian flesh, nor is it designed as a fruity fragrance. Instead, FANTASTIC explores the unexpected scent of the flower itself and the atmosphere of a durian orchard while its blossoms are still in bloom.
Durian blossom is green, slightly tart, creamy, humid and deeply floral. Its character can feel strangely familiar, yet it remains difficult to compare directly with any other flower.
That sense of surprise became the beginning of FANTASTIC.
BEFORE THE FRUIT
When people think of durian, they usually imagine the unmistakable aroma of its ripe fruit: intense, sweet and rich.
But long before the fruit begins to form, there is a flower.
Durian blossom is something many people may never have seen, and even fewer have had the opportunity to smell. What makes it especially fascinating is how completely different its scent is from the fruit itself.
Within a single blossom, greenness, gentle acidity, creaminess, humidity and different floral impressions seem to unfold at the same time.
None of these facets appears entirely on its own. They overlap and merge, creating a scent that feels complex, unusual and alive.
FANTASTIC returns to this moment before the familiar.
Not the durian fruit everyone recognises, but the flower that came before it.
Not the fruit everyone knows, but the flower few have encountered.
MANY FLOWERS, ONE BLOSSOM
FANTASTIC is a soliflore interpretation of Durian Blossom.
In perfumery, a soliflore is a fragrance created primarily to express the character of a single flower. But portraying one flower does not necessarily mean using only one floral material.
Instead, FANTASTIC brings together multiple floral and aromatic elements, each representing a different facet naturally perceived within durian blossom.
The fragrance begins with Durian Blossom and Yogurt Accord.
Yogurt introduces a sweet and tart fermented acidity, with impressions of cultured milk, yeast and soft creaminess. It is not intended to smell literally like food. Instead, it helps express the unusual natural character of the blossom.
Mixed with green and juicy facets, the opening sits somewhere between flower, leaf, moisture and gentle fermentation.
Then the florals begin to unfold.
Champaca brings warmth and depth.
Ylang Ylang adds richness, sweetness and creaminess.
Jasmine and Gardenia create the density of white florals.
Magnolia introduces freshness and airiness.
Mimusops Flower and Water Jasmine contribute greenness and humidity.
Different floral colours and textures appear within the composition, from white and yellow florals to softer impressions of red florals.
Yet none of them is intended to stand apart.
They gradually overlap and dissolve into one another until they no longer feel like a bouquet of separate flowers.
They become one flower.
Durian Blossom.
This is why FANTASTIC remains a soliflore despite being composed from many different flowers.
Many flowers, composed as one.
As the fragrance develops, Sugarcane introduces a light, green and translucent sweetness, suggesting the first moment when fruit begins to form without ever becoming the recognisable aroma of ripe durian.
Sandalwood continues the softness and creaminess of the floral composition.
Vetiver draws the fragrance towards roots, earth and the orchard floor.
Finally, Musk brings everything together and allows the atmosphere to settle naturally onto the skin.
The fragrance moves from tart greenness and subtle fermentation, through dense layers of flowers, before resting on warm woods, earth and musk.
BEFORE THE FAMILIAR
FANTASTIC is not simply a portrait of one flower.
It captures the world surrounding it.
Imagine entering a durian orchard while the trees are still in bloom.
Clusters of blossoms remain attached to the branches. Some flowers have fallen and begun to fade on the ground. Green foliage, humid air, flowers, leaves, earth and a faint fermented acidity mingle together.
You may not be able to distinguish exactly where one scent ends and another begins.
But you can feel the orchard alive around you.
This is the atmosphere FANTASTIC seeks to preserve.
There is also something curious about the story of durian itself.
Durian is one of the most recognisable fruits in Southeast Asia, yet the flower that comes before it remains unfamiliar to many people.
Something we think we already know can still contain another side that feels completely unexpected.
FANTASTIC returns to that overlooked moment.
Before the flower becomes the fruit.
Before its scent becomes something instantly recognisable.
Before the familiar, there was something else waiting to be discovered.
Before the fruit, there was a flower.
Before the familiar, there was something FANTASTIC.
